Freya.
Freya was a truly unique 19-year-old.
Freya caught the eye when she was very small when some of her precision passing was viewed as ‘another level’ and her innate ability to play football brilliantly so young was astonishing. A level we hadn’t seen in the club before at that age. She developed and developed driven by her inner drive to be her very best. When she was moved around positions on the pitch, she never complained. Never complained if her pass wasn’t caught. Or didn’t get a pass she should have. There was a strongly held view that perhaps Freya would be our first top end Dublin Ladies star. She hardly ever missed training or a match, right up to her last game in the Spring. She would train as hard as she could – remarkably hard. With minimal fuss. She was a leader. She set standards about how to be a teammate. How to conduct yourself. How to strive to be your best self regardless of challenges.
But it doesn’t stop there.
Freya helped in the Academy. She helped at the Mini All Ireland. She helped in the Camps. She helped present trophies and medals at the Super 10s & Mini All Irelands. She never said no. Despite how unwell she may have felt. There is simply no doubt, she was a wonderful and unique young woman who gave so much of herself to our club and our community on the pitch and off it. A true role model for all of our members.
And it’s now time for us to say thank you, to say goodbye & to reflect on her spirit and celebrate her time with us.
Her funeral cortège will pass by her beloved Bushy Park on her way to Mount Jerome. We will stand for her on Tuesday. She so often stood up for us.
We invite , and indeed encourage all members, supporters & friends, young and old to Rathdown Avenue at 11.40 on Tuesday 18th . We will meet at the entrance to Bushy Park at Pitch 2 beside the small roundabout. There we will form a guard of honour along the Avenue for Freya.
( Note: Her closest team-mates will be forming guards of honour at Zion Parish Church and Mount Jerome. Everyone else should attend Bushy Park as Zion Church is very small and can only accommodate those closest)
